West Palm Beach/Boca Raton Drug Addiction Statistics

West Palm Beach is the largest city in Palm Beach County, and forms an integral part of the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton metropolitan area. The area is home to a population of 5,413,212, and boasts of a lovely beach and an awesome skyline too. The city houses not only several universities and colleges, but also plays host to many sports centers associated with baseball, golf, polo and even croquet. While the citys crime level seems to be on the decline, it is a fact that not too long ago, the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton region had more than 50% of it downtown property lying vacant due to the crime rate in the city.

Amazingly, most of the criminals arrested here were given to the abuse of drugs. The statistics of drug abuse in the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton region are alarming indeed, with the first drug abuse being reported as early as 13 years. The National Institute on Drug Abuse states that over 93% teenagers have had an experience with alcohol or drugs by the end of their senior high school. One of every 16 seniors smokes marijuana. The number of kids who abuse prescription and illegal drugs in West Palm Beach/Boca Raton is scary. Just recently the following news was reported Three West Palm Beach, Florida teenagers mixed beer, rum, marijuana and cocaine. They then kidnapped and set ablaze a tourist from Brooklyn.

Teenagers state that drug abuse is the most real threat that is faced by them. Some kids fall prey to addiction purely due to peer pressure, while others give in due to academic stress or sports aspirations. Sadly, all these kids end up with nothing more than severe addiction, and end up opposite of where they had hoped to be. More often than not, the parents of these kids do not even know of the problem till it has blown over completely and the child is almost lost.

Be it prescription opiate drugs or illegal ones like cocaine, these kids have tried it all. Methadone is very common in kids who are into sports, since many of them use the drug initially to control the pain that occurred due to an injury during the game. Sadly the high the drug gives makes these kids take it too often, resulting in an addiction. Norco, Percocet, Percodan, Oxycontin, Roxicodone, Roxicet, Vicodin, Lorcet, Lortab, Vicoprofen, Dilaudid, Duragesic, MS Contin, Demerol, Fioricet or Fiorinal with codeine are some of the common names of the prescription drugs that the kids in the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton area are using.

Most of these kids live in denial, and what is worse is when the parents refuse to accept the fact either. Running away from the problem or ignoring it is not going to solve the issue. The only solution comes in the form of West Palm Beach/Boca Raton drug rehabs that offer these kids another chance at life- a life that is happy, healthy and worth living.
