New study shows a disturbing perscription pattern

October 7, 2011 9:43 pm | comments Comments (0)

A new study carried out by NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) shows that the prescribing pattern in the US is excessive.  More than half of the patients who were prescribed some type of opiate medication had been written a script for narcotics within the past 30 days.  This is alarming for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that people are probably receiving these prescriptions from different doctors who may not know about each other.  This ups the risk for overdose or even death.

Many of the clients that we help here at Transformations have found themselves in this exact situation.  A medical problem that needs to be treated becomes the catalyst for a life-long terminal illness; addiction.

At Transformations we treat our clients as a whole.  No one situation is alike.  Each person brings with them their own experience and we use every available method to build our clients back to stable and confident individuals who have the tools to continue on a successful path.  These include individual therapy, 12 step meetings, group therapy, addiction education, real life setting, and holistic health.

Please call us if you or someone you know has a problem with prescription drugs.  866-211-5538.

“As the diagnosed cases of ADHD rise, so does the potential of abuse of medication. “

September 30, 2011 4:37 pm | comments Comments (0)

According to the Center for Disease Control, the number of children age 4-17 being diagnosed with ADHD has increased by 22 percent from 2003-2007. Almost one in ten children are, at some point, diagnosed with ADHD. Of these cases almost 70 % are prescribed some type of medication to treat the disorder.
Why is this diagnosis on the rise? Is the consistent use of prescription drugs helping or hurting our teens? Here at Transformations we see a large population of clients who started using prescription psychostimulant medication at a very young age. In turn, this predisposes them to trust and use prescription medications into their teen years, thereby opening up the possibility of drug abuse.
All of the clients at Transformations are given the knowledge and tools to change the way they think about using medications. Through the use of one on one therapy, group therapy, addiction education, 12 step meetings, Holistic care, and Medical treatment to name a few, we can help people who have been programed to take and abuse medication. Our facility uses an approach that is uniquely personal. You will be treated as though you are part of our family because you are. The education and therapy needed to begin to change the cycle of drug abuse is available for you or your loved one. Please call us 1-866-211-5538.

New Problem in the US; Spice, legal drug abuse.

August 26, 2011 3:29 pm | comments Comments (0)

There’s a drug popular with teens in the U.S. that many parents may never have heard of, but worst of all – it is legal. This drug, called “Spice” or “K2” is said to give the user a marijuana-like high. Sold in shops and online as incense, it is being smoked as a legal alternative to marijuana. But this drug appears to have far more dangerous side-effects and without the necessary regulation, consumers have no idea what they’re really getting.

Spice originally appeared on the scene in the late 1990s, but didn’t really become popular until 2008. As the drug gained popularity in Europe, scientists began conducting research into the composition of this drug and any potential effects on the body. As a result of these investigations, many countries subsequently banned Spice including Germany, France, Chile, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, and the U.K. The United States currently has no such ban on the drug, likely due to the fact that it has only recently become popular in the U.S.

Transformations Treatment Center has the skills to help your loved one recover from addiction to this powerful synthetic drug.  Please contact us if someone you know has an addiction to this drug.

Treatment for addiction to Bath Salts

August 19, 2011 8:47 pm | comments Comments (0)

I know it may sound unusual but Bath Salts are quickly becoming a drug of choice for people in the United States.

Abusers of “bath salts” become agitated, violent, and psychotic and require, as one might expect, a whole new kind of care.
Bath salts became popular last year and their rates and willingness of abuse are rising. Doctors are alarmed, saying that the drug has unusually dangerous and long-lasting effects. Habitual drug users are attracted to the drug due to these long-lasting effects.
Bath salts can be snorted, injected, or smoked and contain stimulant compounds.
At TTC, our clinical staff has the ability and knowledge to help people recover from this type of addiction. Our one on one therapy, group therapy and Holistic aproach include the cutting edge EMDR treatment that has had great results with people addicted to stimulants.

My name is Susan Wilkoff and I have been working in the field of recovery since 1985, about 26 years, following my own journey into recovery. I am so happy to be working in a holistic treatment center such as TTC. I think it’s great that we have a Traditional and a Christian track as this opens up the program to a whole extra dimension of possibilities for addicts seeking recovery. I ran groups here for a few months before I came on board and am so happy to be working in this positive and uplifting atmosphere. I feel I have my experience and wisdom gained from that to share, and I enjoy being around recovering addicts. I am a Certified Addictions Professional of the State of Florida, was a former school teacher, trained at London University, England, and of course I have my own research on addiction to share. I am also familiar with the family dynamics of addiction and am well acquainted with the fact that addiction runs in families.

Welcome Susan ! We are excited to work with you.
