WHAT ARE THE FACTORS THAT MAKE DRUGS POPULAR IN CONNECTICUT?

CONNECTICUT CHRISTIAN REHAB DATA EXPLORED

With Connecticut having a population of over 3.5 million, the fact that there are 190 drug rehabilitation centres is something of an alarming statistic. In 2005 and 2006, approximately 47,000 people were admitted into rehabilitation with a dependency - over a third of these dependencies were on heroin, which is an astounding statistic. Why are there so many drug rehabs and why is heroin so popular here in comparison with other states? This report looks at some of the key factors explaining the drug trends that Christian rehabs in Connecticut are seeing.

One of the biggest factors surrounding drug consumption is CT is location

Connecticut is exceptionally close to New York City, as you will know if you are up-to-date on your American geography. Because of this proximity to the Big Apple, the state is an essential form of transit for drug traffickers and drug smugglers who are looking to get their supplies into NYC, where prices are high.

The prices for the drug that is in demand most, heroin, are low

Of course, a significant amount of the drugs that are travelling through Connecticut are going to remain there, with heroin one of them. The state has one of the highest demand rates for heroin in the country (this is represented by the unusual amount of admissions we told you about before) and this is because of the fact that good-quality heroin can be obtained in the area for a relatively low price in comparison to other states. Heroin addiction is widespread throughout a variety of areas in Connecticut, with the levels of overdose shocking. As a result, many admissions are made to rehabilitation clinics in order to help people to overcome the problem they have.

Heroin is seen as extremely addictive, with 74% of addicts questioned in a survey saying that they have been admitted into rehabilitation once before relapsing and becoming dependent on drugs yet again. Out of that 74%, 24% of those questioned said that they had had spells in rehabilitation at least five times and had remained on heroin.

Some drug cultivation can even surpass the watchful eye of the authorities

Marijuana cultivation is one of the biggest issues that Connecticut faces when the substance isn't smuggled from places like Mexico and Canada. Drug cultivators have been seen to be wiring electricity through generators which means that the electricity used to grow marijuana plants isn't from the electricity supplied by utility boards. There is a reason for this: if an utility board suspects illegal activity, their details are passed onto law enforcement, who then take action on those who are growing drugs illegally. The fact that some drug cultivators are getting away with their actions have meant that more marijuana is on the streets than ever before in Connecticut. Because of the popularity of heroin and cocaine, marijuana is not the most popular drug in the state like it is in most states in the US.

The importance of a good rehabilitation clinic

Even though secular rehabs have helped people to overcome the dependencies that they have to drugs like heroin in Connecticut, particular treatment regimes have low success rates. An average Christian rehab in Connecticut, on the other hand, allows addicts to select the best recovery plan for them based on a variety of different methods, meaning that they have an individualised plan that can help them achieve sobriety and to remain there.

An interesting method which has seen addicts become deterred from going back on drugs is education on chemical dependence. In such sessions, those who are dependent on drugs see how their body works and how their body reacts to the drugs they consume. In addition, they are also told of the long-term effects that substance abuse can have.

The support from religious ministers like pastors that is offered at Christian rehabilitation clinics is also seen to be popular. Pastoral counselling plays a big part in the treatments that are offered from institutions with a religious denomination. The opportunity to visit chapels, to receive religious guidance and to participate in Bible study has allowed some to overcome the dependencies they have and to obtain a lot of faith in the process.

There are a lot of factors which make those who live in Connecticut more vulnerable to drug abuse than people in other areas. This is why there are 190 drug rehabilitation centres in the state, with that number rising. It appears that at the moment, with admissions at rehabs increasing, rehab clinics are winning the battle and losing the war.
