A Florida Rehab Center Discusses The Key Stages of Alcoholism

Each and every year, Florida rehab centers can see hundreds, possibly thousands of alcoholics who are looking to overcome the dependencies that they have on alcohol. It can be an exceptionally difficult task for those who are severely addicted to drink, with the withdrawal symptoms proving severe medical side-effects in some cases. But what defines an alcoholic, and what are the stages that lead to an addiction? This article aims to lead you through the processes which can culminate in a chemical dependency.

A Florida rehab center might take a different view on the progression of alcoholism to another rehabilitation clinic, but a common place that can initiate the beginning of an addiction is when the drinking sessions that a person has are no longer simply for social pleasure and are no longer infrequent.

Principally, the fundamental warning sign of an addiction is where alcohol is used as an escape mechanism from any stressful or emotional encounters that a person may face in their daily life. It can be incredibly daunting for those who are around a drinker if there is a certain event (like a bad day at work or a family dispute), which can go on to trigger a drinking session. In rehabilitation clinics, many therapists proceed and try to establish what the triggers are so the addict can make changes to their life.

When this stage becomes more and more severe, it can begin to transition into the acknowledgment of the problem because of any medical side effects which can occur because of the dependency. Because of the sheer amount of alcohol that is in the bloodstream, stomach pains and frequent hangovers are all possibilities that a developing alcoholic might have to endure. Drinking can begin to happen more frequently, with some even resorting to alcohol in the morning. Denial can be common, too, with any blame or awareness that they do have of their developing problem being apportioned to the alcoholic’s loved ones.

As the alcoholism becomes more severe, the purpose of taking a drink is to fulfill a void which is left by a lack of alcohol; many people also lose the ability to stop after taking a certain number of alcoholic beverages. The social problems that can arise from an alcoholism problem this developed can be dire, with some people going onto lose their jobs and become alienated from their families. In most cases, this makes the issue worse, with alcohol being seen as the main priority over other key needs in life.

Delirium when there is a lack of alcohol in the bloodstream can be common as the illness nears it end. The impact of the illness can be incredibly shocking, with help being urgently required at this point. Thankfully, there are a variety of treatment options which are available across treatment clinics in Florida which aim to help alcoholics who wish to recover, irrespective of how far advanced their drinking problem actually is, and how severe their particular case is, too.
