Seeking Help For Heroin Addiction? Consider a Christian Rehab Program

What is alcoholism and drug addiction? They can be defined as excessive dependence of a person on alcohol and drugs almost all times of the day. People tend to get into this habit when they are unable to face up to problems in life. So where does Christian rehab come into the picture? Rehabilitation is the process of setting an alcoholic free of his habit and putting him back on his feet into a clean and sober life. Christian rehab programs help addicts to quit the dangerous addictions using a three dimensional treatment plan which cleanses the body, mind and soul.

Whatever external help may be provided, as far as alcoholism or any other addiction is concerned, it is the inner voice that has the maximum power to keep you on the right track. The inner strength can come from a faith in a higher power. So a treatment plan that considers this soul aspect is one that will be a complete success both in the short as well as the long term. At some of the rehab centers the treatment programs are customized to provide their clients with the “whole package”. There is total support even after the clients finish their program and step outside. Till they are fully on their own the center assistance continues.

The environments here are peaceful giving the right ground for addicts to become sober once again. Staff members are understanding and have a kind attitude of help and aid. Many facilities ranging from good lodgings to internet to outdoor picnic areas/ sports/ gym etc are here which make it a fabulous place for recovering. The programs can vary between 30 days to 90 days. Anyone can join in the therapy sessions here; they need not be Christians. There is also no attempt to convert people’s beliefs – just a friendly atmosphere which is positive enough to let people transform into free individuals who can face life without the shadow of addiction.

Physically the clients who enroll here get all the comforts and medical facilities. The personnel here are highly qualified and can handle emergency as well as routine situations competently. Detoxification is administered first to cleanse the system in total. Then some further medicines are given to ensure that the craving for drinks and/ or drugs are reduced and also to subdue the symptoms that crop up when the substances are stopped. For example nausea, trembling and anxiety are some common problems that are caused when the alcohol is with held. But with effective pills these agonies can be reduced to a minimum level.

The next step is to make the addicts aware of what the drugs they use are doing to their internal organs. When they get this information many of them lay off the stuff because they are apprehensive about the side effects. Next is providing them with skills so that they can quickly fall into step in the outside world by getting a good job and managing their affairs efficiently. Basic computer skills, personal finance management, time management, health management – are taught so that the person who steps out from here can lead an independent and fruitful life.

Counseling helps to release stress and things that are pressing down the mind. The problem or set of problems that made the addiction happen in the first place are thoroughly assessed and the client is encouraged to find alternate solutions to those. When the problem occurs the next time, the person who is addicted is well prepared – he has no need to resort to booze rather he is bold enough to face and solve the problem squarely. When a person trying to get sober discusses his fears, struggles and victories with others facing the same issue it creates a positive impact. For many people this tends to act as a motivating factor making them understand that they are not alone in facing this. This grouping provides an opportunity for people to get better ideas on how to resolve their issues. In a group people tend to encourage and assist each other.

As far as faith goes there are many activities that are charted out for the inmates to keep them usefully occupied during their leisure time. Prayers, visits, community work, singing, listening to sermons – are some of the typical activities with some one who is there to act as guide and supervisor. Such activities have a dual purpose – one is to give the people involved a sense of fulfillment which in turn gives happiness and confidence; two is diverting their minds from the thoughts of drinks and harmful chemical items. Once a person completes a program at a rehab center he/ she is sure to metamorphose into a positive person full of the zest for life with a joyful, alcohol-free life s
