Private Substance Treatment Facilities
You are a drug or alcohol addict. You are angry, frustrated and confused. People around you fail to understand you and you fail to understand them. And finally, you decide that before things go more out of control, you get admitted to a drug treatment center.
All is well so far, you think. The treatment is over and you try and get back to your normal life. But there is something that troubles you always. There is a feeling of emptiness and unhappiness which is starting to haunt you. And then, you feel inclined to seek solace in some form of intoxication again.
This happens to a lot more people in the United States than you think. This relapse occurs because the first treatment failed to instill confidence and will power in the patients. They were tempted to return to what gave them momentary pleasure and relief because they found the emptiness in their lives too overbearing. This is the problem with many rehab centers in the country.
Though they offer quality care and treatment, the recovery cannot be called complete. Often, an addict suffers from more mental issues than physical. There is a need to address the mental and spiritual problems that the patient faces. Christian rehab centers have identified this need and try to fulfill it.
These faith-based centers, aim to help the patient rebuild his/her life in all spheres. They give them the tactics and confidence to stay clean and sober, help them find employment, provide direction and help them build their broken or strained relationships.
The treatment begins with making people understand they are addicts, they have fallen prey to substance abuse and they need to get off it for their own good. They need to understand why they took to it and why they should get away from it. Once this point is received well by the patient, the Christian rehabs proceed to make them learn how to beat the temptation, how to keep the mind and body occupied so that the habit does not return to haunt them.
The individual counseling helps to identify problems in each person. The reasons for turning to drugs vary from person to person. Talking to a therapist helps the person speak about his life and emotions. There may be many pent-up feelings, which the person has never expressed. It will relieve him of a lot of stress and will help him think clearly.
In addition to individual counseling, the patient is made to participate in group counseling. These are sessions where the patients speak about their experiences and their efforts to stay sober. These group sessions help people to get over their hesitation to speak out and share their thoughts and feelings. The objective is to make them communicate and support others. They should understand that they are not the only ones who go through addiction and similar problems. This feeling of sympathy and empathy will make them more confident and help them open up. These sessions are integral to any drug abuse treatment program because it creates a support group for patients, people with whom they can talk about their darkest fears and depression.
A major ingredient of the programs at the Christian rehab facilities is the Christ approach. The basis of the program is the life and experiences of Christ. The sacrifices he made, the characteristics he portrayed and the teachings he imparted, are all explained to the patients. Love, forgiveness and the value of life are taught. This helps the addict get over the guilt of having taken to drugs and ignoring his life and responsibilities. Faith in God helps to erase many of the negative feelings in people. This faith will help the patient once he leaves the institution and faces the world for a second innings.
Going to church enables the patient to interact with many people and it develops a trust, which has been lacking in the patient’s life so far. So, church attendance is encouraged.
Along with understanding how and why a person took to drugs, it is also essential to make him understand how the drug affected him scientifically. How the drug has affected the working of his body and mind makes the patient restrain from it in future. The effects of most addictive substances are explained to the patient so that s/he does not choose one instead of the other.
The comprehensive drug treatment at the faith-based centers attracts many people to choose them over the traditional centers. Additional benefits include the aesthetic beauty of these centers, the ambience that has been created and the happiness that abounds there. These places also do not charge much, so that people of any strata of society can get admitted into them. Those who require luxury accommodation will also not be disappointed. The bottom line is that people who enter these institutions would feel completely comfortable.
