Faith Based Treatment for Addiction

How many of us know the pain of being an alcoholic? Those who do will vouch for the misery involved. If you are among those unfortunate few and looking for a really effective de-addiction methodology then you might find Christian rehabilitation your best bet. This is because this treatment has a complete approach to heal addictive tendencies by treating not just the body and mind but also the soul or spirit. The idea is to achieve both short term and long term benefits; you become sober and remain that way for the rest of your life.

Achieving freedom from alcoholism is certainly not easy; it is next to impossible to handle it by yourself. There are professional cure places that function only for people to recover from the habit of drinking or abusing drugs. Christian rehabilitation centers are popular destinations for addicts who are determined to get out from their unhealthy practice. So what are the important amenities you should look out for in such places? After all, you should choose a good center that suits your style and can work wonders for you. When you emerge from that place the idea is to evolve into a sober and free person from an alcoholic wreck. The first and primary pre requisite is for the environment to be conducive to a speedy healing; it must be relaxing and tranquil. Next are the facilities for staying, food, recreation and skill development. Accommodation should be comfortable and private; a good diet should be easily available, sports and other form of entertainment should also be there. Another important thing to look for is how far the cure-center can make you develop basic skills so that you are ready to begin a new life once you are out of it. The next is to research on the treatment-plans and programs they have on offer, if they can be tailored according to your individual need and how it has worked in the past on clients. Once you find a place that satisfies all the above criteria, you could check yourself in and follow your treatment plan attentively.

Physical healing involves taming your body that has been getting intoxicated over a long period of time. First you will be laid off substances that you abuse and next your body will be subjected to a thorough detoxification process. The craving that is likely to be there is treated with medication while the side-effects of stopping alcohol and/ or drugs are also handled using tranquilizers etc. Along with this a wholesome diet and exercises are introduced so that your fitness level and energy level are improved. In the mental or psychological therapy some form of counseling is carried out in which interaction with a counselor on a one-on one basis is done and/ or group sessions are held. The counselors or psychologists are persons who are professionally trained to carry out these meetings in which you are lead gently to open up your heart and talk about your troubles – that lead you to take up this habit and how it turned into an addictive one. While talking about them you are also encouraged to figure out solutions without resorting to substance abuse.

During group therapy, many people who share similar situation as you are in, are brought together to share their experiences with each other. You learn to cope with problems better because interacting in a group is a good way to get ideas and more ideas. You can also improve your communication skills which come in handy when going out and facing the real world. Skills like basic computer knowledge, learning to handle personal finance efficiently and to manage time effectively are important value-adds you get from a good cure place that not only considers what happens within its four walls but also about  the situation the client will face in the world outside.

What is it that makes Christian Rehabilitation extra special? It is the spiritual aspect that comes as part of the treatment-plan. Here the client like you is taught to put your faith in a higher authority and base your actions on the premise that the power beyond is giving you the strength to carry on your fight against alcoholism with conviction. Activities are designed to keep your mind and body busy; they also induce a sense of purpose in you which in turn gives you enough self confidence to face up to the problems without having the need to turn to booze. These include community service, prayer meetings and sermons – which you can continue even after being cured and quitting the center. This way, your long term commitment is ensured. So you not only come out as a teetotaler, but remain one forever. What is more? You could become an inspiration to alcoholics who want to turn “clean”!
