Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is progressive. Most of us would like to think that the road from “sure I’ll try it” to “I need to keep doing it” is long and winding. Unfortunately, not all drug addictions develop slowly. Physically speaking, the nature of drug addiction is fairly straightforward. Emotionally, however, drug addition is the murkiest of waters. What causes drug addiction? How does drug addiction work? More importantly, is there a drug treatment center that can help a person overcome the disease of addiction?

There are good drug and alcohol treatment centers located in Delray Beach, Florida. Drug and alcohol treatment centers have a long history of treating drug addiction and alcoholism and their staff really understand that each client’s rehabilitation needs are unique. The drug rehab experts emphasize that in order for a person to successfully overcome their drug addiction they need to understand how it works- how the body and the emotions surrounding a person’s drug addiction function. Understanding these things will help each person develop a treatment for drug addiction or alcoholism that works.

Let’s talk about the physiology of drug addiction. Remember that physically, each drug does different things. A person will have a different physical reaction to a meth addiction than he or she will have with a heroin or alcohol addiction. Two basic types of drugs are the drugs that help calm you down and the drugs that help give you energy. When you take these drugs, the chemicals contained within the drugs replace the substances that your brain would produce naturally when it felt that those substances were needed. Over time, as drug addicts take more and more of their drugs of choice, the brain stops producing those substances naturally and the body becomes dependent up on the drug for the substance’s creation.
The reason alcohol and drug addiction is such an emotional issue is that the chemical drugs replace are responsible for the balancing of a person’s moods. A person’s moods can become unbalanced for any number of reasons. Perhaps a person had problems growing up that led to the development of severe anger or depression issues. Maybe another person does not function well under stress but, for whatever reason, has been forced to live in stressful conditions. Often, drug addiction arises as a coping mechanism-a way of dealing with the every day things that others don’t seem to have a problem dealing with. It is common for a drug addiction to arise from an “I just need a little [insert emotion] and I’ll be okay” and the only way the drug addict is able to create that emotion is through the consumption of a drug. The number of drug addictions that began as a one time “quick fix” is staggering.

Drug and alcohol centers understand that sometimes an addiction can happen by accident and that the only way to overcome an alcohol addiction or drug addiction is to figure out why someone first began consuming his or her drug of choice. Once a person is able to get to the root of the emotional side of his or her drug addiction, he or she can take great strides to ensure that their drug and alcohol treatment is a success. The drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs focus on the process of overcoming addiction and work to give their clients the tools to stay sober, once their drug addiction and alcohol rehabilitation is complete.

I decided that when I was going to get clean that I was going to do it the right way. So when I did drug treatment I did Christian drug treatment. It worked for me. I also believe it could work for you.

I know a lot of people with a drug addiction. Drugs and alcohol do not discriminate. You can be a bum on the streets or live in malibu california in a mansion. Addiction and alcoholism is addiction and alcoholism. It will destroy you no matter who you are. There is help out there if you are willing to admit that you are an addict or an alcoholic and are ready to get help.

Drug addiction can really destroy as persons life in just a few short years. I have seen people who were millions of dollars, be reduced to nothing in a period of 5 years. Drug and alcohol control their life and they are trapped. Some of them make it to a drug rehab or some type of Christian treatment center if they are lucky enough to do so.

Substance abuse occurs when a person uses a substance, which in time the body comes to rely on. When a drug, obtained either legally or illegally, is used regularly, the brain becomes used to its presence and normal functioning may occur. Drug addiction is cunning. Finding help from a drug treatment center can get you back on the right track.

These programs began as a treatment for alcoholism and drug addiction, using the 12-step program. Centers began treating drug addiction in the 1980’s, when cocaine use reached epidemic proportions. Originally, patients would participate in a hospital-based program for three to six weeks, then enter into out-patient therapy. Also included in this model were self-help groups. Unfortunately, cutbacks in healthcare coverage for drug and alcohol abuse have resulted in fewer of these programs, and under managed care, the length of stay is much shorter.

Everything needs to be in place in order for Oxycontin Detox and drug Treatment to be effective. If a person is in need of drug or alcohol treatment, drug treatment needs to be available.

The continued use of drugs strengthens the neurological pathways in the brain, and their activation quickens with each use. The quicker the “high” is achieved, the stronger the dysfunctional learning.

  • By dennis, June 11, 2009 @ 11:50 am

Recovering from addictions takes time, determination, and the profound belief that life is better without addictions. Every addict will recover at their own pace based on their own emotional and physical reliance on their drug of choice.

  • By Elisha, June 11, 2009 @ 11:52 am

One thing to keep in mind: Your values are a part of who you are and what you think. Just as you need to remain true to your beliefs, you also need to stand firm with your values. Much of your success in addiction recovery will be determined by your core set of values. Remember that it’s your own values that make you different from other people and that will help you learn to like and love yourself again. Take your strong values and use them to express who you are and what you represent.

Although most patients use medications as directed, abuse of and addiction to prescription drugs are public health problems for many Americans. However, addiction rarely occurs among those who use pain relievers, CNS depressants, or stimulants as prescribed; the risk for addiction exists when these medications are used in ways other than as prescribed. Health care providers such as primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists as well as patients can all play a role in preventing and detecting prescription drug abuse.

  • By Belinda, June 12, 2009 @ 2:09 pm

Years of research have shown us that addiction to any drug, illicit or prescribed, is a brain disease that can, like other chronic diseases, be effectively treated. But no single type of treatment is appropriate for all individuals addicted to prescription drugs. Treatment must take into account the type of drug used and the needs of the individual. To be successful, treatment may need to incorporate several components, such as counseling in conjunction with a prescribed medication, and multiple courses of treatment may be needed for the patient to make a full recovery.

  • By pete, June 12, 2009 @ 2:11 pm

The two main categories of drug addiction treatment are behavioral and pharmacological. Behavioral treatments teach people how to function without drugs, how to handle cravings, how to avoid drugs and situations that could lead to drug use, how to prevent relapse, and how to handle relapse should it occur. When delivered effectively, behavioral treatments – such as individual counseling, group or family counseling, contingency management, and cognitive-behavioral therapies – also can help patients improve their personal relationships and ability to function at work and in the community

  • By hope, June 12, 2009 @ 2:12 pm

Some addictions, such as opioid addiction, can also be treated with medications. These pharmacological treatments counter the effects of the drug on the brain and behavior. Medications also can be used to relieve the symptoms of withdrawal, to treat an overdose, or to help overcome drug cravings. Although a behavioral or pharmacological approach alone may be effective for treating drug addiction , research shows that a combination of both, when available, is most effective.

Anybody can be an addict or alcoholic. It does not afflict any particular race or religion or sexuality. It is not determined by age or influence. It is not visible to the naked eye and it can not be detected by blood tests or x-rays. It is however a disease that can kill you if not treated. Drug addiction needs to be taken seriously. There is help.

heroin addiction probably happens faster than any other drug addiction, and it doesnt matter whether or not someone may be more likely to become addicted than another. someone who is already using other drugs may think that he or she isnt an addict just because they use less powerful drugs.
