Christian Tip of the Day from our Christian Program Director
The integration of Scripture and Biblical principles are integral parts of the treatment of those clients participating in the Christian Track at Transformations. The letters, poetry, history contained within the Bible can resonate with those of us impacted by the devastation of addiction. You might have heard of the Story of the Prodigal Son also referred to as the Parable of the Lost Son. If you’re not familiar with the story you can find it in the book of Luke Chapter 15 verses 11-32. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2015:11-32&version=NLT
It’s a timeless story. During one of the Christian group sessions this story is used as a type reflective exercise. Each client is encouraged to “imagine” themselves as each of the different participants in the story. Narrative versions of the story are read from each of the different “characters” points of view (i.e. the father, the older brother and the lost son). This exercise then leads into a guided discussion where the clients are helped to process how this story and exercise applies to their recovery. It has proven itself to be a powerful and healing exercise. This is just one way in which the use of Scripture and Biblical principles are being used to positively impact the lives of those we have been entrusted to care for. Attached is a copy of the narrative that is used for this session.
