Step by Step Treatment to Marijuana Addiction

You must quit weed today. It is hard to let go, when you are hooked onto something such as this addictive substance. Marijuana is often called weed or pot. The first smoke will always lead to the second, second to the third and before you know it you will be seeking it every day for getting a high. Weed is not a destructive substance but people using weed to get high are so hooked to the feeling of taking the pleasure that they seek far destructive drug in the long run. Marijuana addiction indeed leads to trying drugs such as heroin, cocaine, speed, meth, etc. They were not lying in health class, it is in fact a gateway drug.

When addicts come to the treatment center, it has been observed that they need treatment for multiple drug addictions. There are four easy steps to stop you from the consequences ahead.

1. Acceptance to the fact that you are suffering from addiction to marijuana.

It is so much like tobacco that people wouldn’t feel the chemical dependence to weed at the first try. However, marijuana addiction can indeed be as dangerous as any other drugs. Marijuana has an intoxicating agent called THC which causes physical cravings and chemical dependence. In the recent years the drug is available in the market with a far higher percentage of the addictive substance. This creates a somewhat addictive sensation in the body. Studies through different tests have revealed that the chemical THC is deposited within the body fat and it stays within the body for months. This has been identified as the reason as to why people feel a chemical dependence when they get high.

2. Understand why you need a psychological craving for the drug.

If the first step would be acceptance, the second step is to understand the source of your craving for marijuana. Marijuana addiction is largely due to psychological need. Control the behavior or avoid the situation which triggers your thought to take the fix. Ask yourself repeatedly whether you can avoid the reality, which you do not like. Getting high is a temporary feeling and it definitely shouldn’t be your escape. Try and work on the reason at a deeper level.

3. You can bit the addiction and replace it with new habit.

Do not start doing another drug. Replace your craving by trying new activities which would interest you.  In fact physical and mental activities can give you enough adrenaline rush rather than the drugs. In fact, activities can give you a sense of satisfaction which would last you more than a few hours.

4. Build and work on your will. Make it stronger!

Marijuana addiction is more a psychological fix rather than physical. One can quit the use of marijuana, if one can gather enough skill to quit the drug. You can relapse again, but each time you feel the urge, you have to stop yourself.

In treatment for the addiction of marijuana a person should always have a good support from their family as well as from their physician. One has to develop the strength to trying to do so. There are no magic pills anywhere around the world. It only depends on you.
